DOCUMENTARIES
Documentary films encompass a broad category of visual expressions and commentary. From country side to city, from inland areas to coastal areas, China is a ripe and fertile story waiting to be told. Rich in culture and steeped in tradition the Chinese documentary filmmakers are gaining world wide recognition and acclaim for their realism, depth and artistry.
TELEVISION
With a potential audience of over 1.2 billion viewers, and a total of 2,000 television stations(of which 209 are operated by China Central Television, 31 are provincial TV stations, and the rest are local city stations)China is a TV producers dream market. Unlike most emerging markets domestic productions are the favorite shows for viewers.
FILM
The Chinese box office soared growing by 44% in 2009 according to China's Film Bureau. Box office revenue rose to 6.2 billion yuan. China also added 600 new screens last year, bringing the country's total to 4,700. Domestic films make up the majority of titles shown as The China Film Group restricts the number of foreign titles permitted to screen in its theaters, with an annual quota of 20 revenue-sharing imports. With the similar growth projected for 2010 the domestic film market holds promise for years to come.
